Now the game is bright enough to function, but these screenshots seem way over-gamma'd, including the first ones that I posted. My gamma seems to be way overblown now.

I'm going to need to take a page from Stargazer's book and play EQ with shades on...

Damn, if you want Classic just turn your Gamma way down low. How hard is that? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] I bet a zero EVERTHING will be pitch black.

You don't understand that having a non classic light levels in game totally throws off all the game balance?
You understand that the lighting changes are hard coded due to later DirectX versions, right? It's very difficult to achieve classic light levels with modern equipment.

You know why he wears the glasses in the daytime right, AND is always warm - fuzzy - happy?
Let's just say that's not only coffee in his mug.

What he doesn't realize is that there's no EQ at the Betty Ford clinic - better shape up.

The P99 Devs did eventually try a fix, but it still wasn't correct, so they reversed it.
