Even using info on here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_access would prove more than 1% of the known subs for dial-up / subs for broadband was what is that roughly 13.4% of dial up subs? Now that might not seem like a lot looking at %, but that is roughly 18.5 million people you didn't account for. Now I don't know how or if there is even a way to figure out how many people with dial up/broadband actually played EQ, but considering the annoyance of dial-up, and definitely on MMO gameplay, I would think the number was a lot higher than you imply. I am also trying to figure out if broadband was more common among, let's say, the US then or it's numbers.

We had two landlines playing EQ at the same time before Kunark though.

Had dial up till 2005ish? All particles off all the time and was good at looking down and running in the Bazaar. Raids were rough in POP with all the shadows and environment shit.

Used to stream porn on a 56k. Learned an infinite patience to see a titty bounce with cum on it.

If you wanted to box back in the day you had to pay extra for a special DSL/cable/ISDN line, and you had to pay for multiple accounts and multiple computers to play them on. That cost a significant chunk of change. With Project 1999 though a modern computer, with a standard (no longer super expensive) DSL/cable line can run 6 "boxes" all from a single box. And if boxing was allowed all 6 accounts would be free. That's nothing like it was in '99, when boxing was extremely limited just becaus of the cost.

And while I don't think allowing two boxing would be all that destructive to the server even - but yes you're right lots of free 6 boxing would be on the server and it would be utterly destructive. Do we really want sam deathwalker on this server? The only gripe I really have about the no two boxing rule is that doing item transfers gets to be a pain in the ass. Paying for ports and rezzes or getting a guildy to do it aren't that bad, but transfers are just *groan* and kind of petty to not allow boxing. Shared bank while not classic would be a good compromise. I'm sure there is a decent amount of two boxing with VPNs and multiple computers though. I've run into a lot of PLing druids where the PLeveler talks and the Plevelee barely does anything.
