When people say they hate (random celebrity), they usually don't mean that they literally hate said random celebrity; 99% of the time they really mean that they hate "random celebrity," the concept.

It's silly to hate Miley Cyrus the person, since it's someone who will never affect your life and is similar to hundreds of people you come in contact with all the time in daily life. Unless you literally hate everyone for any reason, you don't really hate Miley Cyrus the person.

However, Miley Cyrus the concept embodies a lot of things that people don't like about the music industry, primarily the idea of selling an image instead of substance. It's the same as people who go out of their way to mention how much they hate Nickelback. Nickelback is like thousands of other mediocre bands that no one ever mentions. People hate the concept of Nickelback, ie. a band that is specifically groomed and promoted to be popular.
