EQ 50+ doesn't change all that much. It's relatively the same game and this server has an insane exp modifier when you group. Not gonna plow my way through a boring game in the hopes that I'll like it's end game.
LOL EQ with exp modifer is still one of the slowest lvling MMO's in history besides maybe FF.

You can hit max lvl in AA with 1/10th the time it takes to do it in EQ and that's without twinking, friends helping pwrlvling etc.

But it's boring and the combat looks like wow whack a mole. No thanks.

How many pre 50 raids did you go on? EQ is a total grind, it was designed to be a grind. The longer it took to level, the more money from subscriptions.

Where EQ beats other games is the reward for being more hardcore. In WoW and every WoW clone since 2004, you complete the mundane collect 10 of this or that quests and you get exp + gear. With level restrictions and what not, everyone is similarly geared. The dungeons take 20 minutes at best and can be done while your waiting for your TV dinner in the oven or during half time. If you wipe? No problem corpse run takes less then 3 minutes and you don't have to be concerned with Bind points or being ganked while running back.

EQ Rewards those who put the time in and neckbeard, who grind and show up to raids and the loot gap makes it so that those players have a distinct advantage over anyone else. Epic vs Non-Epic. Admittedly VP Gear is ehhhh not a great advantage but there is some. EQ at level 30-50 vs EQ 56+ is not the same. Has never been the same. Raids come in to play, being in range to 60s come in to play. The class gap becomes larger and the gear becomes less advantage. That is why all the retard shit brain melee PKs hang out at level 30. Cause at level 60 they'd be getting smoked. Its also why casters stop at level 52, that's when they have the largest advantage over melee.

I think you are misunderstanding the way AA is structured. 1-30 in AA is maybe 10-12h played and is just a quick intro to the different aspects of the game. It is like 1-10 in EQ would be. It isn't some ominous or great boring thing that you have to "plow" thru, it is a few days of very casual play. It can also be skipped if you are a patron and just level thru crafting after 10 or so. Really, the quests just give some coin as LP recharges and serve as a hotspot for PvP.

I posted this to RnF a while ago with more info"

I played til 37 and got in quite a bit of PvP and some PvE. It has been years, but I felt like I was playing Civilization in an MMO, and I mean that in a good way. This game is meant to be played on a grand scale. Guilds will succeed by organizing and having each person do their part to keep ships sailing and castles defended. On the same note, one or two people running trade packs are going to get ganked and lose it all. An organized guild will be able to keep up trade runs and enrich their little empire. This really is a team focused game.

A few things of note:

The good:

The world is huge, and you can go where you want and do what you like. In my faction there was a "zerg" guild that no one apparently liked, and if you ganked them and went to trial, the jury would find you innocent based on rep alone. If another guild of your faction is in a war, you can turn on bloodlust and attack them from behind.

There is no shortage of victims, no matter what. I didn't bother to bloodlust and go criminal, I just went to enemy territories with a friend and blew people up. There are players everywhere.

Your level 50 weapons and armor come from open PvP zones. The higher level arch dust you need for crafting comes from open PvP zones as well. This is the only game I have played since EQ where the open world is vital to progression.

The glider reminds me of levitate in EQ. Use it to short cut things and get an advantage in PvP.

There are hidden quests all over the place if you explore around, and no, they aren't given away by a glowing yellow "!". Also a ton of random world boss spawns.

The neutral:

Combat is kind of blah. Maybe I wasn't high enough to get access to more "clutch" skills in a tree, I didn't really see a tool kit that would enable someone to out play another versus out damaging them because their gear was simply better. This may correct itself in group play when coordination between cc specs and heals comes into play.

The bad:

The early game lacks anticipation, and I think that is why so many people lose interest quickly. EQ in the day had anticipation at every corner, from vengeful musicians to exploring dungeons, to PvP. WoW in its early days had ezmode quests, but it also had some pretty fun and at times challenging instances where you didn't know what this next boss was going to do. Not to mention PvP in Blackrock Mountain or Dire Maul. If ArcheAge ever gets anticipation, it will probably only come running a ship full of trade packs through hostile waters or gathering a rare and valuable commodity from a hostile zone. Or world boss raiding I guess.

Misc:

Labor points are not this horrible thing. After the end of CBT4, 85% of players polled liked the system. They just mean you learn to prioritize instead of just grabbing everything you see. Get some friends, everyone chips in, and you make a ship instead of just solo farming everything yourself. No comment on the recent changes with LP pots, since they may be reversed soon, and it no longer takes labor to identify gear upgrades.

I'm sure I forgot a ton of stuff, but overall it is a pretty good game with a lot more to it than you will ever see in a few hours. Every game is different, enjoy them for what they are worth. AA isn't the second coming of EQ just because someone tagged it a sandbox, but it is actually a very deep sandbox in it's own right.
Which server is Nihilum rolling on, and which side? I have no interest in joining but it could be fun to have an AA server for r99 expats. Since you can PvP your own faction, side doesn't matter so much.

only tears I see are yours in lots of threads for a game you claim not to play but secretly wish you could. RIP your 1000+ DKP you can't spend anymore 8)

It looks like WoW/Rift type combat with the instant CD's and fast paced button mashing style I watched this ship PVP video.

I don't know I am intrigued, open world PVP WOW could be fun - and it's F2P, fuck the founder shit but I'll be playing on the 16th.

I was close to buying it, was still on the fence because of the pay-to-win issues that might or might not be resolved in any timely manner.

(See this vid for pay-to-win issues https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zTxno_iLP8 )

What broke the decision for me, is that there is no inverted mouse option, and theyre not guaranteeing any time frame that this will be fixed.

I will play next week to test it out though
