Here's a little story.

When i was around lvl 30 i was in upper guk with someone from my guild and other randoms. I didn't even know the guildie, was grouping with him for the first time.

Anyways, RBF drops. As i have a dragoon dirk in my range slot, i'd have rolled on it, but then the guildie warrior said "Can i have it? I Need the resists."

Nobody objected, and i passed, cause you know, he seemed like he wanted to have it and it's a low level item, so who cares really?

2 weeks later, my guild leader informs me that the guy left the game because he felt EQ was getting in the way of his RL.

Now RBF is a 500-600p item, but the principle remains that:

If you ask me to join your group and torpor drops, i'm gonna roll on it because:

I don't know you.
You're not my friend.
I don't know if you're still gonna be online next week.

agree.

However there is a large turnover of players on this server. eg folk i lvled my mian with back in autumn(on friends list) 60% havent logged in since jan. DOnt just think thats cos i scared em away [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I think using /dice all the time is crude, but its at one lvl it works.

imo, the best method is have mainlooter, who sells ALL drosp and splits loot....eg takes names of all there and gives em pp at later date. However this isnt really viable on PUG. Needs certain lvl of trust and contactability. eg friends or guild grp.

Unless you can do a G wurm grp on regular basis..... but tbh i dont think you are commited to other peeps wellbeing on this issue? your really featehrin your own nest.

Not exactly. There is a higher turn over of characters ; not players. Most of the folks you met while leveling up were playing alts...and they are now on other alts. And, they have played the game through this cycle a dozen times.

There are so many alts that the distinction between "alt" and "main" that we used on live no longer applies here. That's the difference. There is no such thing as "passing for mains" on a server that most "mains" are decked out in planar/vp gear or the player has so many "alts" that he really has no "main."

New people here don't get this because they are importing their old ideas from live to p99...years after launch and off timeline. What new players perceive as greed is usually their approach to the gameplay through the lens of standards from live that don't apply on P99.

P99 is not a cloned and resurrected live server (maybe it once was back at launch, but so few players were here then that it was hardly ever "like live" for other reasons). P99 is a different animal than the EQ you remember. Don't get me wrong, I love p99; but anyone coming here expecting play and community to be like it was on live is bound to misinterpret the culture here as greedy. In many ways, p99 succeeds because it is like live in some regards...but not when it comes to the old distinction between mains and alts.

You yourself are greedy as fuck mister. Get a clue. Asking people to help you get a 90k-100k item for their time when their drops are like 20% of what you expecting. Now WHO is greedy here?

Lol i know i do shady shit all the time right? huehuehue. I'm fine with my in-game reputation. The ratio of people I come across who like me vs the dickbutt trolls that talk shit and make shit up to make me look bad is like 30:1 so i'm good with those numbers.

My forum reputation I could really give a shit less. There are so many trolls on the forums who completely annihilate any thread with the stupidest shit. Clearly the forums aren't the place to look for people to play with in game.

So, let's say all 6 of these spells have an equal likelihood of dropping. If we weight their value as 1/6 each times their value:

15k for the misc spells other than Torpor:

0.167 * 90
/
[5 (0.167 * 15) + (0.167 * 90)]

Torpor represents 54% of the value of the goal of the group


30k for the misc spells other than Torpor:

0.167 * 90
/
[5 (0.167 * 30) + (0.167 * 90)]

Torpor represents 30% of the value of the goal of the group

So I don't think that's too horribly greedy, on those ranges of value provided by Dald. I've never dealt with those spells in trade, so I'm taking his estimates for now.

Everyone here is greedy. That's not the problem. The problem is folks trolling a thread and you giving them ammo by acting all pissed off and self-righteous.

The other issue is creating a PUG with the express purpose of getting you an elite, massively valuable item which is tradeable. 90k is 90k, and 90k to someone else is just as subjectively valuable in gearing them up as Torpor is to you. Even if my monk was grouped in KC and Tstaff dropped, I would prefer it be sold and the money split amongst the group unless you're among people you know or everyone is completely OK with class-specific deference. I think that's how all loot should be handled by default.

What you're asking is this:

I need assistance from a tank, a cleric, An enchanter, and DPS.

So what exactly are you doing to earn your spell here? You don't have Torpor, so you aren't healing. You're asking for a chanter, so they are hasting and their slow is more than enough for these mobs. Shaman DPS is 'meh' at best.

And... You're saying that the top value drop, by a large margin I might add, is claimed by yourself for... What? The effort of setting up a group?

It was said in your epic thread, and it's been said here. If you want help to the extent you're asking either:

A. Agree to roll on the best drop available and don't state outright "Claimed cause Shaman"
B. Join a guild to do this with.

It may not be charity, but you're asking for the biggest piece of the pie guaranteed to you (assuming it drops), when in actuality your role in the group is the most negligible.
