He's in and out of the house and up and down from his desk all day long. The idea was he could have his cleric sitting afk nearby wherever I am and when he has time come over and refresh buffs/heal me up. Realizing that this would look very suspicious to others watching is why I came here to ask before I did it. I've decided to not even bother cause I don't want to risk it. If a GM shows up while he's AFK or stepped out I don't want to be accused of boxing and not be able to jump through hoops for the 2 box test. It's a shame that I can't do this even though it's not breaking any rules but it is what it is I guess.
It would be breaking the rules if a GM came to your camp and asked the "2" of you to perform the 2box test. If your dad isnt there your banned for life both accounts. Do you really want that to happen. The moment your dad is outside and your about to die and you click that keyboard on your dads pc your 2boxing and therefore its illegal. You say now you wouldn't do that but if shit hit the fan you would def have that thought go through your head. I dont see what the problem is with him camping out and then just logging on to buff you. He doesnt need to log on every 15 mins to buff you. If he wants to PL you he can sit at the PC and do it.

You are going to have a LOT of people reporting you. Like it or not. The GM's are only going to put up with so much shit. I say it is WAY to risky to do what you want.

Even IF you are legit they, the GM's, are only going to investigate you a few times and get tired of it over and over.

Getting perma banned is not much fun with Velious coming out soon!!

this thread sounds suspiciously like asking how to box and not get in trouble...

your IP exemption is so two people with the same IP can PLAY together. sitting AFK isn't playing. while it isn't strictly 2-boxing, it seems to run against or at least right up to the line of the reason you were given an exemption to begin with.

my advice would be to not use your IP exemption like this. only use it to actually play together.

If we follow the logic most of you seem to be advocating here then anyone going AFK anywhere near other players XPing - for even a moderate amount of time - risk getting permanently banned.

Surely this cannot be the case?

It is. This server wants NOTHING to do with 2 boxers. NOTHING. So if someone is sort of suspicious of it you probably will get reported. Simple as that. Auto follow even sort of looks shady. I don't recommend it unless both of you start killing quick.

When GM's can see that the Ip addresses match to 2 accounts that are doing this practice it is suspicious yes.

I doubt it's that suspicious. Suggesting that the staff is too stupid to know folks will go AFK on occasion during the course of normal gameplay strikes me as insulting at best. Granted I tend not to use auto-follow, despite the wife being rather ditzy and having a propensity for going the wrong way. It's not against the rules and probably wouldn't cause trouble but all the same I prefer for invisible GM's to see me having to stop and wait for said ditzy wife versus them seeing a character running around on autofollow all the time.

If your afk though when GM comes to test you and your not back at PC quickly its instaban for both of you no excuses like you had diarrhea or you had to let the dog out etc. Is it really worth it? If someone gonna be afk more then 10 mins i would honestly camp. Not worth getting banned over cause i'm sure GM's have heard the story " my girlfriend is in the bathroom and you know how women are" before and dont buy it.

Perhaps that has happened to someone at some point. I don't know. I do know my own experience on here, and that includes times that I've been around Guides or GM's when the wife was sitting there AFK and we've had no trouble from it. The only folks I know who were banned for boxing were in fact boxing. Again, that's just my own experience. Having access to a character that can heal/buff/port you is a powerful temptation and some folks can't resist it.

If I get banned by some overzealous witch hunter at some future date, then I'll play a different game. I'm not going to lose sleep worrying about it in the meantime.

Like log in remotely to his "dad's work PC" from home and buff from there? Mhm.
