People trolling probably don't belong in a beta test. You're not looking at the finished product etc.
I'm fully aware what to expect from a beta, and at the same time you can't go overboard with letting it gut your standards and expectations.

Technical issues, poor tuning, and unfinished content aside, a beta should function as a proof of concept. At this point in development, they aren't going to uproot and rework large swathes of the game's mechanics and fundamental concepts.

Having participated in beta, I'm ambivalent about this game. The class system and world pvp mechanics did leave me with a sense of wonder and novelty, but the world itself, the art design (design, not graphics), social interaction mechanics, phasing, pacing, and story left me feeling disappointed and bored.

I very much want this game to succeed, but I don't think it's going to greatly appeal to me unless they make lots of very good choices in the next 4 months.

What part played like an elder scrolls game? I must not have seen those parts in my beta test a couple/few weeks ago. Couldn't pickpocket/steal, couldn't pick up books, linear story, overly easy combat system, stealth was lame, NPC characters were boring, engine was from SWTOR and played like it. Quests were either very linear story line (and not at all engaging), interact with x number of objects then return, kill x number of mobs then return, or kill special mob. Special mobs were extremely easy and since there were ridiculous numbers of people around, you never had to fight them alone. Game was not very buggy for a beta. Invis lasted 2.5 seconds, world looked like sanitized and homogenized crap. I was so bored the entire time I played it. Never once felt like a part of the world, it was just another theme park mmo. Bear in mind, I've sank over 1500 hours into morrowind and oblivion combined (gonna get skyrim one of these days), so I love TES, but at no point did any of this feel like an elder scrolls game to me. The thing that disappointed me the most was the total lack of cool quests like morrowind and oblivion had. Where was the intrigue, the murder, the thievery and double-crossing? Not in that game.

I'll keep playing beta during next round because I really want the game to be good, but in its current state, Zenimax Online would have to pay me at least 20 dollars an hour to play that game.

This. I've invested thousands of hours into TES games, and this plays nothing like one. It's more of a generic MMO with a Elder Scrolls skin on it. Hell they even went out and butchered a lot of the lore. The only thing combat has in common with any TES game is the horrible animation (which we all come to love and respect..)

Also clamouring that "Hey guys, it's just beta its not done aaarrrrgg!" nonsense.. It's under 5 months from release. No huge overhauls are going to be done from now until then. The game you played, outside of some minor bugs/network problems, is going to be pretty much the same game you get on release.

Yet, box sales will happen. The game will sell. Profits will happen. And more poor quality MMOs will be pushed out. This is why we can't have nice things. The game is horrible, yet people keep their eyes closed because 'OMG its Skyrim online guyz!!" without seeing the true game. I'm praying it pulls a FFXIV. Flops completely, people at Zenimax get fired, and the entire game gets a overhaul to become something decent. It's what it needs. However Zenimax isn't SE,.. so yeah there is that.

I'll come back a few months after release with a huge "told you so!", but until then keep dreaming. And keep feeding the bad MMO train.

I don't think anyone's claiming TESO will be buggy, just that it will be the same generic MMO crap. Just as Realms Reborn from beta to launch remained a generic theme park michael bay McMMO.

Floor's still open for someone to eventually make an MMO that's actually new.

When is an MMORPG not an MMORPG? What would you change that would make something truly innovative/immersive and set it apart from the current ones?

EQN / Landmark will shake things up quite a bit, although I'm sure Sony will butcher EQN in other ways.

At least the voxel tech and restructured AI tech will still make it better than any McMMO in the works. Star Citizen looks promising if it ever becomes more than vaporware, although I'm not too keen on sci-fi space themes.

Unless I am reading the website wrong they have raised 34m for Star Citizen so far..so it better end up being more than vaporware.

Haha I guess vaporware is a misnomer in this case. I should say that its a similar fear with EQN: whether or not they can deliver on the tech they want to pull off.
