its like a 50/50 chance of breaking pet. when it doesnt it means your hide was not successful.

basically hide doesnt always work. goto a kos npc and con him. then click hide and con him again. if its not indiff it means hide actually failed and you are not invis. invis is what breaks the charm, not just clicking hide.

hide must successfully invis you in order for the charm to break.

Yes, you rolled a halfling :P.

But in seriousness, hide doesn't always cancel pet. It, like ogre frontal stun immunity, is vastly overstated as a bonus for picking those particular races that have the skill innately.

You can tell when it works by conning a KoS mob until you see it go indifferent. My dark-elf cleric will take 3-4 hides before it actually works. Even though my screen will indeed show I've disappeared. It is only when conning a mob yields an indifferent con that you know it was a success.

If you're in LOIO anyways and plan to charm for the life of your druid might be worth the time to get (could theoretically farm it yourself at 24):

Hide is pretty awesome for camping stuff and going AFK and knowing you won't come back dead.

One thing I would add is that charming gets better (less resisted and longer average durations) the higher level you are than the mob. So even though some guides say to go to 'x' spot at 'x' level it's sometimes not as good as staying somewhere else and going to the next spot a level or 2 higher. For example I found it hard charming gorge hounds in EK at 17, 18 was ok-ish but 19-21 it was excellent. Sometimes an extra level or 2 makes it a lot easier! I found the same with mammoths too. Iirc it says to start them at 24, but I found i got too many resists and charm broke early a lot. I went back at 26 and it was a different story, charm lasted til the end of the fight most times, snares/roots landed 1st time etc etc.
A few other spots to help you level that I would recommend are oasis anywhere in the 14-22 range, the crocs/caimans of all types are good for charm killing and I went from 21-22 on dw crocs. Also from 14 the snakes in north ro are good to charm and use in dervish groups or to fight spiders. Griffeines/griffawns (depending on your level) in NK and young kodiaks/kodiaks in WC are all good options to get you through some level ranges. I'm now 36 and in ot and only at this level is it becoming viable as I tried at 32 and 34 and got too many resists and early charm breaks!
Lastly, if one place is too low and the next is too tricky, go group for a level or 2, or you can pull singles and snare, fear and dot animals, like a nature loving necro [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Racial hide is capped at a very low skill level so it will fail often. You can use camo or invis to animals(i prefer IVA due to faster cast) to break charm.

Hide is most useful at making me scream at my tv when it fails 8x in a row. Luckily in the video I uploaded it worked first time.

I find hide works around 50-60%, as a halfling. If it does fail it's only another 5 seconds or so and you can try again. I find it worthwhile for breaking charm, but if it fails twice in a row then I'll cast invis. But I would advise to always try using hide at least twice, then use invis if they both fail, as it will save mana and when it works it's instant, mana free charm breaks (for those of us who can't afford a goblin ring)
