With the soft cap of 200 on int, there's plenty of room to substitute in a piece of gear for a little extra str if you really wanted it and there's pieces with str and int combined, like the sapphire platinum necklace and golden bracer. That's +14 str right there without adding a ton of weight or losing an int slot.

5 sta doesn't sound like a lot, but there have been many occasions in this game where life and death and a lengthy corpse run came down to the last few HP.
except if he went 5 str and focused gear on hp/mana after soft cap instead of STR then the reward would be much more health than 5 stam will give for a wizard.

Faster than you'd think. Wizards aren't as gear dependant as other classes and there will be a day when 42k for 8 tink bags isn't unfathomable. if the wizard is relying on the 20-30hp which is what the 5sta would give he is gonna be dead anyway at higher levels.

What's a wizard carrying around all the time that the extra 5 str will keep him from being encumbered? If you're walking around with 8 regular backpacks, those backpacks alone are 24 stones. If you're filling them with fine steel weapons, crushbone belts or whatever else that doesn't stack, you could put all of your starting points into str and you're still going to be encumbered. Sta is still the way to go.

5 STA is 12 hp at L60, and less before. 5 STR lets you loot one additional FS weapon in 50-100 groups, for a total of maybe +500PP from 1-50. Or you could just get mage bags.

Conclusion: stats other than INT don't matter; the only issue is were you smart enough to roll gnome

I'd still rather have the extra HP than not have it. You can't tell me there was never a time in your EQ career where 12hp was the difference between surviving a dot.

My preference is for the STA, and to put everything into STA. But that's generally only a good idea if you are strictly concerned with being an end game wizard with BIS gear. With that stuff + a chanter buff you'll be capped with a few extra HP's to boot.

The HP gains are admittedly marginal, but every little bit helps.
