How would other methods require a lot more hands on time?

This is just a wild guess on my part but I think the reason there is variance on here, and Nilbog, Rogean, Sirken are so hands off on this is that they have RL jobs, and I would assume families.

Any other method would mean a lot more hands on, ergo, time out of their lives to do this. I think they just don't want to be bothered and I don't blame them. They probably devote a LOT more time to this server than you think the way it is.
With the FTE shouts in there's no extra work created for the gms when multiple parties are vying for FTE, since everyone can see who got it. There's really no reason to keep variance in at this point except to preserve the status quo.

On the other hand, I'm not sure the staff care about this, but there is still the flaw that 300 people show up to raid Trakanon.

However, that's why I like the idea of all mobs popping at once each week, although not classic. Server repops are really the best thing that is currently (If you count currently as every 1.5 months or so) happening to this server.

Weekly server repops are not remotely classic. Top guilds will still got the majority of the mobs. What are you trying to accomplish? Bringing down the price of green scales and earth staff?

Yes, they get the majority of the mobs but not all of them. This is the only time that other guilds actually get some of the mobs. FE/BDA/IB/other guilds tend to get a few mobs.

TMO gets close to 100% of the mobs each week with just the current tracking system in place. FE sometimes gets a mob, and the other guilds may get lucky and be raiding a zone when a mob pops.

Yes, TMO gets the bulk of mobs with server repops, but other guilds get a chance and actually get to "compete" rather than wake up at 3 AM to kill a mob that was camped out for. TMO cannot be everywhere at once.

No variance seems like an interesting possibility too; however, it seems like it would be sort of like a coin flip to see who gets FTE on the mob. However, we now know who would get it based on the shouts. I think I'd rather have this than variance.

My humble opinion, which you can disagree with is:
Simultaneous repops > Classic mechanics > Variance.

I just don't think anyone wins in terms of "fun" with variance. No one likes tracking. Waking up at 4 AM in the morning isn't fun either.

Variance should exist with shorter windows, and more simultaneous server repops.
