Constitutional amendments have been repealed in the past. Laws change. Societies change. Static states decay and die horrible deaths of tenacious, self-righteous importance.

I don't think many people were frothing over the 18th amendment when it was proven to be a miserable failure to the safety and security of the United States and was eventually repealed.

Societal norms are important, as is historical context. Thomas Jefferson thought the Constitution should be rewritten in its entirety every generation because of this.

What are you clinging to, exactly? Do you think if the US government becomes some tyrannical authoritarian regime, that you and your little gun could do anything at all?

If the US military doesn't overthrow the US government at that point, then all is lost for us. If the US military comes after you, no matter how many fancy guns and ammo you have, you are as good as dead.

You: a few guns and some ammo.
US Government: drones, tanks, jets, ships, 2 million trained soldiers, special operations forces, and everything else that has no place in the hands of civilians.

That is how it's different from Rome or the CSA. Technology is so radically different, that the 2nd amendment is completely and entirely obsolete.

You and your stupid "Minute Men" couldn't last a single day if you stated that your explicit goal was to overthrow the US government. You are not American Revolution Patriots trying to overthrow the King in 1776. Not even close.

If the day comes when a soldier comes knocking on your door and your first reaction is to try and shoot them dead, then I'd say the problems of the world transcend anything like, "Well I wish we had our guns!"
