I have too much respect for the players that have suffered through the server and put in hours and hours of play to really support a wipe. Too much /played would be deleted it just aint right.
We can hope for fixed server rules like 4 lvl +- PvP range..item loot possibly randomized so its a kinda gamble when you wear a fungi whether or not you lose it to PvP...but a fresh box is the least likely of all and I understand the reasons no matter how much I'd like to see it. Pop is going up. Red99 remains best eq experience available anywhere and it is free. Fix NPC aggro so noobs can run to guards when they come here..tinker with resists and change the PvP level range. Let's get this baby optimised.

Since we're all daydreaming, I'd kinda like to see the server slowly split into hardcoded teams. What do you think would happen if one day dark team (dark elves, ogre, trolls, iksar) characters logged in to find they were all removed from their guilds, could no longer group with or receive/give beneficial buffs from/to anyone but other darks, but could still attack each other? Kinda like the opposite of VZ crossteaming; hardcoded teams without the safety of their own team.
And the devs could get all RP about it. I bet population would go up. Then when the novelty started to wear off, they could do it again with the humans (who all decided to go to war against short team for their subtle "tiny doors/housing" trolling). And then after a while of having things like that, elf team would split off from the elf/short alliance because dwarves contribute so much to global warming, and the gnomes refuse to give up their practice of necromancy. And finally, after all of that, the teams become real teams that cannot attack their own.

I have to admit a wipe interests me. Now that I'm in my mid 20s having never grouped a single time I'm growing bored.

FoH needs a server with level cap 20 to stay interested =P
**edit (Let me rephrase this) FoH would do best on a sever level capped 20. They can do just fine on any server. But would thrive at 20 level cap. I would also have a toon on a 20 capped server, or a discord server.

Facts:
1. If a sticky were put up with a promise of a new PvP server if sufficient donations were received to support it for a period of two years, a sufficient amount of donations would be received in less than a month. 2. If a second PvP server was launched, it would have a population in the hundreds for a period of months and would be a blast. 3. If a second PvP server was launched, the existing PvP server would be a ghost town. 4. Having selectively enforced the rules to the benefit of certain peeps on this server, the devs won't do this because it would take away the tiny audience that is left for those people.

To get around any questions of pay to play, the sticky could simply say, when you send your paypal donation, please include a comment regarding what sort of ruleset you would like to see on the new server. Don't promise any specific return. Leave it unspoken that those who donate will have greater influence.

I have reading comprehension issues. I get what you want now. If you can't get the code for free, might as well donate for the custom backend code... P.S. Emu server code is not owned by sony... so donating for that ... should not be an issue. Technically.
Lots of precedent, microsoft thought they owned the entire BSD TCIP stack, not so. Because of some netbios bullshit that was copypasted or something (I am not a nerd historian expert, someone could probably elaborate, but the idea is the same). But big legal defense fees have kept Redhat, IBM, and Novell down =/ On the other hand an MIT license on emu back end might get the project big enough so it could support an emulator IBM of sorts. It might not even be a problem for Sony, more like an issue with the license of the server code itself... I never looked into it. But if R99 emu was forked open source it would be unstoppable, no one could end it. The project will never make big money though because of those issues. It will always be in the realm of Non Profit - hobby coding only -. Most of the tweaks are database and non-code anyway. "Game Rules" cannot be copyrighted. http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl108.html and those dbase entries are "devices" used to play the games AFAIK (or care to argue) P.S. I'm glad someone likes messing with emu as a hobby. Thanks =)

I doubt they would release a second pvp server when the one they already have doesn't do well. Probably have more luck getting them to release a second blue server [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
