I tipped a lvl 44 druid 1k for a port once and now all I need to do is PST for a port and he is over in a jiff, I still tip 100pp 90% of the time for ports.

If you're quest and loot savvy enough you can make that amount as low as level 5/6, or maybe even lower, starting entirely from scratch.
