I got a degree in business, and I still don't think I could be a good tunnel rat. I'm too nice to buyers. I'm always like, "Hey, thanks for buying my item. Have a discount."

Only way to get around that Zander is to price slightly higher than you're pricing... then the discount feels good for both parties [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Being good at business and being good at sales are two different things, but you know that [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

As someone who's an amazing salesperson and a terrible businessman I can attest to this and the inverse both being true.

I've been flipping items in EC for years since I've came here. Unless you get lucky on a big item you can sit there for 6 months flipping mid tier shit and barely make anything.

Whenever I came back I sold him a peacebringer for 4k. He then immediately reauctioned it for 7k. Completely my fault for not checking but hes on a list now of people I just don't sell shit to anymore for any reason at all.

This. I've talked with "resellers" and it's almost impossible to turn a profit on the non-big money items. You might be able to flip a Fungi for a 10k profit, but most items will net you either 100-500pp, or you'll sell at a loss.

Yet these same people somehow end up making "enough money to buy 8 fungis" in a months time /boggle .

They probably low-ball, and often get rebuffed. But occasionally they get the seller that's just "fuck it, i want to get the hell outa this zone, i'll take your lowball."

Yeah. This is the way it is now. I haven't made any appreciable EC cash in a long while. Of course, the farming I relied on just isn't worthwhile for drops now. I have to be thankful I was able to gear myself and the missus. If I had to start today, the economy would be a lot harder on our progression as a duo and definitely on me when I bottom feed the darkblue con line.

It'll pick up again in Velious =)

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that a certain three letters are what get most of these so-called "Pro EC traders" who pop out of nowhere started. It's easy to scalp a 5-10k profit on a Fungi or 20k on a CoF. Any idiot can do that: you just sit in the tunnel until you find a lazy, rich and desperate buyer. You aren't going to get rich with a month of tunneling starting with a low bankroll, though. Selling a few pairs of platinum fire wedding rings for 700 instead of 500 isn't going to make you an overnight millionaire. An SSB for 1.5k instead of 1k is a good start, but again, this is not big money.

It's ridiculously easy to make money in EC if you already have a huge bankroll, because you can afford 50k+ items then just charge an extra 5-10k on each. That strategy doesn't work with cheaper items, though, both for the fact that the absolute plat value is much lower, and the fact that there is much more selling competition and downward pressure on low & mid-range gear.
