u mite like smite better than dota 'cuz dota takes hundreds of hours to even figure out how to do anything effectively

i swear to god it's the best game i've ever played but it's the most complicated simple game to ever exist

tldr: dota takes a long time to even be decent

Valve made a conscious choice to focus on all the things under the hood more so than the commercial viability of the game, because it was already such a success story.

While all that was happening LOL came out and a lot of folks thought that valve was gonna take its first major loss.. when they released dota it fell upon a lot of def ears since LOL was rolling at full steam.. but that didnt stop valve, they kept dumping money into it, marketing it as if it was a smash success right out of the gate and it payed off.. over time people realized that Dota is the serous version of the 3 games (origional dota inclued) and that really gave them the upper edge as a long term member of the esports community.

I always think of Dota as like the BMW M3 of gaming, its marketable to a large audience and is a precision racing machine at the same time.
