Up here in WA we have the salmon lobby and the pocket gopher lobby and boy do they cause hell.

Special Interest Lobbying. Seems innocent enough at first. Salmon fishing. Pocket Gopher. After a quarter of a millennia though of Govt churn, USA becoming the worlds largest super power, the basics of special interest lobbying can veeringly drift into a new way how of things get done. It's not clear the current machinations occurring at DC is what the constitution had in mind and instead is something that has evolved to become the norm.

It's not like this doesn't happen all the time in history. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. I am not aware of a Govt that ever actually cared deeply about 80% to 90% of people. The whole Democracy is the least worst of all Govts concept. Politics is full of characters like Littlefinger from GoT.
