A quiet sunset began among the pineland hills. I was laid in a position of repose, my back along the soft grass of a slanted mound. An enormous Oak above me flooded the air with a crisp smell. Karana does his work well indeed.

I stopped to tend to the open laceration on my shoulder. A misstep during my fight with the werewolf had cost me. The gash seeped with blood, cutting deep into my muscle. The fading light made it difficult to see. At least the sight of fall leaves blending into the hazy horizon brought me a sense of calm and peace.
