The point is the lines are so blurred by both NATURE, AND SCIENCE. to criticize humans making the process artificial is like saying because someone does something they are harming themselves. How precisely are people harming themselves if they are living happy fulfilling lives without regret? That they otherwise would have. Trans people are no more or less insane than the rest of us. Same with gay people. They just are fulfilling their dreams in a productive and creative way.

Needless to say popular culture (of which is probably also highly popular amongst gamers) is not a "bad example" for a stereotype.

Now could there be a few people who use the process in a negativeway or are mislead and misunderstanding of their condition. Sure but those people might as well be classified as hypcondriacts or medical fetishists or the same class of people who cant 'function' without daily psychotherapy... But thats far from the norm. Those are outliers and nothing to do with the community as a whole.

The DSM labels anything that causes you to misfunction in society as mental disorder. The DSM also classifies people who are nonfunctioning because of their current gender roll in society as being mentall insane. I.e. those who are male but wish they were female who won't own up to it, and it causes them depression or suicidal thoughts are insane.
So by the definitions of the DSMV someone who is a man, acts like a man, dresses like a man, but hates it and does harm to thesmelves is insane. THAT is what that is all about. It is also a way to get the medical industry to pay for something that DOES alleviate suffering, i.e. transitioning into the other gender rolls.

I am not a psychologist but i've read the DSM. And I know what its about. Its a means of making the practice medically sound and it has a LOT of room for interpretation on an individual basis. Its a guideline.
