When I say people want to be told what they want to hear, not what they need to hear, this still includes kids

In my job, many adolescents know what they need to say to go to a behavioral health hospital, especially ones that have been involved in outpatient services or been hospitalized before

You would think kids would fear these, hate them, etc, and many do. But some want to go for a completely inappropriate reason. But if they know what to say, that doesn’t matter. Not myself, not a licensed clinician, not a doctor can ignore the liability of NOT taking their words at face value

I’ve had kids say they are suicidal and need to go to the hospital because last time a year ago they met a boy named Jacob they liked and maybe Jacob will be there again. Or they don’t want to go to school for a week. Or they think if they go to the hospital enough, their CPS case manager will change their placement. Or the court will say they can go live with mom full time

I’ve heard every reason under the sun from kids too dumb to realize you shouldn’t give away your inappropriate reason for needing to go. If they drop enough threats every professional will sign off on it

How does gender dysphoria differ again? From what I know, it’s a KID’s DESCRIPTION of a list of symptoms. All assuming trust, assuming the kid is telling the truth, and doesn’t have any exterior motives or influences

I dunno, I personally don’t think them having more time with the client and credentials than me ups my trust in that system

Which interestingly enough, one of the risk factors in not appeasing the kid’s clinically inappropriate reason for going to the hospital, is that some kids WILL do something to show the professionals or parents they mean business. It’s usually casually referred to as upping the ante

Which is the kid’s manipulating the system with their suicidality. See how murky this shit gets in this field?

I’ve seen kids put on Zyprexa, about as hard of antipsychotic as it gets nowadays, something I’ve ONLY ever seen prescribed to seriously mentally ill status adults

All because the kid always reported “hearing voices”. I can’t rattle off every positive and negative symptom of schizophrenia, but I can guarantee based on seeing none and being able to trust one’s gut after 15yrs and the extreme rarity of that diagnosis in kids, that this kid was not hallucinating

But they put the kid(‘s, I’ve seen more than 1 now) on Zyprexa…

I don't know what kind of law binds the state criminal justice system but if the AG made a list and gave it out. There could be consequences for that. Like it has to remain a part of the investigation. Same if someone working on the case leaked stuff. I don't say it doesn't or won't happen...but a real lawyer i think would be more careful with that information.

Anyway I keep telling people not to tell doctors they are LGBTQ anything because it's likely to just get you discrimination at least among insurers and other ppl who aren't so high up the food chain.

It's 100% best just to be 1) rich 2) stay in the closet. If you're rich you don't need to worry about it you can just buy a brand new identity from wherever and get a free visa and become a European immigrant actor.

That kid needs to be taken away from their shitty parents and put in the military. Their parents need to be mulched into soylent.

If the kid can't make it through basic because they don't have what it takes to follow orders and survive. Jail or mulch em. If the kid has physical disabilities they belong in a facility where they are cared for but not pampered. Like no Xbox all the time. Even disabled ppl need some way to fight and work for something or something they can do. Otherwise they will just go insane like a normal person and have a shitty life. Like being challenged. If the best they can do is work at a memory card game for (healthy treats or access to a favorite stuffed animal) they need that adversity and stimulus.
