my grandpa would eat a box of donuts in a day when he was 84. he'd also fell trees and split cords of wood with an axe. he's 90 now and stopped the treechoppin, but still downs the donuts and he ain't fat or impaired neither.

I think this is an important tangent we've taken here.

Why is pleasure important in eating, at all? Isn't the main purpose to fuel our bodies? Don't get me wrong, I enjoy food, but pleasure is probably the fourth or fifth most important factor to me when I'm choosing what to eat. A number of people admit in this thread that they eat animals because they taste good. That is their sole justification. I guess it just strikes me as terribly childish and undisciplined, to weigh pleasure so heavily in your decision-making.
i've said these very same words many times. It gets nowhere. You're explaining the joy of sobriety to a junkie ^^

I experience a net gain in pleasure from not eating relative to eating, and find the stimulation i get from caloric deficit very motivating. ^^ music sounds so good. I've always found opiation to squoosh my creativity. BUT it takes a couple weeks of rigorously implementing my willpower regimen before existing at this sort of baseline becomes effortless and pleasurable. Withdrawal from sin is painful.

all the baby boomers grew up on that shit. they still all eat the stuff that was mass marketed and mass sold to them from the 1970's.

Hitherto I had stuck to my resolution of not eating animal food, and on this occasion I considered, with my master Tryon, the taking every fish as a kind of unprovoked murder, since none of them had or ever could do us any injury that might justify the slaughter. All this seemed very reasonable. But I had formerly been a great lover of fish, and when this came hot out of the frying-pan, it smelt admirably well. I balanced some time between principle and inclination, till I recollected that, when the fish were opened, I saw smaller fish taken out of their stomachs. Then thought I, "If you eat one another, I don't see why we mayn't eat you." So I dined upon cod very heartily, and continued to eat with other people, returning only now and then occasionally to a vegetable diet."

How would animal activists view killing ants, roaches, spiders or any of the "lesser" species? Is it ok to carry out a holocaust style mass extinction of an ant colony using poisonous sprays just because they encroach on your living space? Doesn't this create a double standard?
