Tesla is noted for saying God is a product of man, and not the other way around. He also says that there's no such thing as an afterlife or eternal soul. Definitely sounds like an atheist to me.

Or let's talk about Darwin for a second because he and Tesla are such great examples of highly intelligent men overcoming their indoctrination while on a quest for the truth.

After seminary, Darwin left on a crusade of sorts to discover the center of creation. What he found instead destroyed his faith. His relationship with the church was never the same.

It's such a good thing that the church has lost its stranglehold over most modern governments. There are a few outliers still of course but childhood indoctrination is becoming less and less common all over the world as human intelligence evolves to rely less on mysticism to explain the universe around us.
