Reagan was actually happy to be highly influenced and managed by those in his cabinet. That's just a fact. He delegated a lot and did not like getting into detail. He took advice from a trusted few most the time.

Reagan also seemed genuinely disconnected from the practical result of his policies. He didn't like the idea of making lives of working people more difficult. Regardless, that's what was (and is) happening.

One of Reagan's worst qualities was his latent racism. He had a definite tendency to look down on Black people in America and around the world. Reagan's presidential campaign was kicked off giving a state's rights speech in a small southern town (mostly known for being the scene of a horrific anti-black murder).
