Um, as i recall from my hooligan days is that hydro is one of the ways you grow weed, it's not a strain.

I'm pretty sure he is referring to he is about to smoke 3 different strains of weed that were grown with hydroponics. So when people say I am about to smoke some hydro, they are referring to weed that was hydroponically grown. But yes, it is used widely for all sorts of weed even though most people don't know where it originates from.
