The purpose of life is to replicate and improve. The illusion is that the self is all important or real. Self still matters. It is connected to all. Self is real as illusion is real. Replication is illusion. Replication is just changing what is. Just as other matters. Just as other is a real illusion. To escape the cycle of rebirth is to reach satisfaction with life and the world as it is. To no longer need to improve and reproduce. To cease change and reach stasis. Or equilibrium. To accept the illusion and be at one with everything and nothing. To be ok with life. And death. As death is part of life. To teach and reach enlightenment the illusiory self must remain alive and grow and continue to change itself, not the individual self, the true one, the whole. This may take many *lives* such as it is.
