What is considered "real loss"? A teenager who's pet rat died? A kid in foster care who is watching their only parent be led away to serve years in prison? Death of a family member? Loss of personal things that most take for granted (ie. amputation, mobility, cognitive capabilities, etc.)? Real loss is very person dependent; just like perspective. Your poorly educated does strike a cord. In my neck of the woods there's a significant number of people with bachelors degrees and graduate degrees. However simply because a person has one doesn't mean they're well versed in all areas. In some situations it's counterproductive IMO. One of my friends has a masters from Princeton in CS. She's dam smart and a hell of a developer at Microsoft. She also has the opinion that she can read one or two articles on any subject and become an instant expert on that subject in 15 minutes or less; including Covid-19. This is dangerous as hell IMO. I'm hoping your remark about "following their sports team" was meant as an example. In addition to my friend listed above another person I know does exactly this; follows the Raiders and more or less worships them. Yep, Raiders team takes a knee before the game and they believe that should be law. However expanding on that there are also people that will bow down to whatever deity is being plastered all over the news. It could be Dr. Faucci, Joe Biden, Antifa or even the black panthers. People blindly following whoever is being lifted up today is more dangerous than ignorant people ignoring the news.

Was struggling to remember what helped me recover. Often we seek a magic bullet and perfection in lieu of living or making due. As per the discussion above. By 40 most people do experience several forms of loss. People are however socially trained and programmed to live in denial. I'd be terrified to learn my doctor posts here.

The assumption of anyone who would have a view that runs counter to the official media mantra being poorly educated is very revealing of your own arrogance. I, for example have a baccalaureate with a major in Bio, and a minor in Chem, and in our exchanges to date your responses are almost entirely ladden with your arrogance and ignorance being projected onto others, Mead, whilst i believe Ive shown than ample times; evidence of a well rounded grasp on "education" encircling advanced conceptualization of philo, sociology, psychology, bio, chem, physics, advanced math, understanding and incorporating a substantial history of the progression of each field of study, and yet here we are; drawing your ire because i dont come to the same level of feigned empathy whilst lording an air of superiority over others.
Youre a fucking nurse towing the company line while aggrandizing yourself. Shut up already.

This seems kinda fitting.
Neil DeGrase Tyson: One of the greatest challenges in this world is knowing enough about a subject to think you're right but not enough about the subject to know you're wrong. The goal is to train your mind how to see the world differently, how to question what others say. I've come to realize that there are three categories of truth - personal truth, political truths, and the objective truths that shape our understanding of the universe. The interesting thing about an objective truth is that it's true no matter what. Imagine that. We all have susceptibility to bias. Search engines on the internet are the epidomy of confirmation bias, and you're going to use that as evidence that you are correct? No. The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it. What does it mean to be skeptical? What does it mean to be convinced by data? A proper skeptic questions what they're unsure of but recognized when valid evidence is presented to change their mind.
