Everyone knows the US administration just gave the order to evacuate most embassy and diplomatic staff and move the remaining ones close to the Rumanian and Polish borders.

The reason the US gave for this move was:

We don't want these guys to get killed because the Russians are crazy and going to start a war.

Which is reasonable. And the Russians are of course like this is provocative you guys are the ones that are getting ready for war and making provocations blah blah blah.

What most people don't know is that the Russians already evacuated their own diplomatic corps and are now removing the rest.

The reason they gave for the first wave of departures was:

several children of Russian diplomats in Ukraine went to visit their grandparents.

...and the reason they are giving for the latest wave is a:

decision to somewhat optimize the staffing of Russian foreign missions in Ukraine

Since we have never actually had a "War" in our lives, is this what the start of a war really is like?

Like, they all talk about their plans and say "X will invade on the 16th" and X goes "nah" and then on that day, they all just line up and go to war on schedule like it's going to school on the first day?

Is this what world war 1 and 2 were like? Like, openly happening in front of everyone faces, and we were all like, "lol this is so dumb they are not gonna do it"

And they they all just went and did it?

I just assumed war is a SUPRISE ATTACK!!!!but Ive never really experienced a real one.
