You're kind of making the exact same argument I am. What I am pushing back against are affirmative claims that Trump somehow did something wrong, or could have done something better, when it's impossible to really know that or base anything useful off it. What, specifically? I mean, I can imagine not sending asymptomatic carriers into nursing homes might have reduced the death count, but democrat governors did that, trump certainly did not. The main critique against him seems to be that he "downplayed" it. And maybe he did, and if so he deserves criticism for that. It's just that like I've said before, it's still an incredibly young problem. We don't yet know how lethal it actually is, but as we understand more every day it's looking less and less likely that it's airborne ebola.

It's also worth considering the collateral effects. I know I've said this before but it bares repeating. Depression is way up under lockdowns, alcoholism is way up under lockdowns, drug abuse is way up under lockdowns. Many small businesses are shuttered for good, which contributes to those aforementioned problems.These are all themselves an additional strain on healthcare infrastructure. Also people with life threatening illnesses (cancer, diabetes, MS, obesity) have less opportunity to be cared for, and in some cases forego treatment entirely due to fears of being exposed to covid. So the trump talking point that the "cure can't be worse than the disease" is completely valid, or at least worth serious consideration. My fear is that good ideas might get cast aside simply because they came out of trump's mouth.

The electoral college is meant to protect the interests of people living in different parts of the country. Life in bumfuck nebraska is different than life in nyc. Without the EC, New York and California would decide every single election. It's called the tyranny of the majority, and is the primary thing that the entire notion of the US was founded on. They didn't want to live under the monarchy's dictate anymore, so they formed a new system that protects against one-party tyranny at all costs. And as it turns out, it works. America is one of the youngest nations on the planet, and also one of, if not the most powerful and influential. Criticize all you want, and you should, it's your right. But please don't try to argue this is somehow a bad system. One of my biggest critcisms of trump was him suggesting flag burners should be arrested. No they absolutely should not be. You have the right to spit on it and critique it *because* of it, and that's no small thing.
