I think the issue here is not paying for ports, but being honest in your intentions.
Let people know you require X amount of PP per port, otherwise don't whine when they don't pay you what you think you're worth. EDIT: Also, be clear about shit. If you charge twinks based on their gear, let them know. If you charge people based on their level, let them know. Calling it a donation when you clearly have a price attached is just retarded.

If you come all the way out to port me, and you think my 10pp wasn't worth it. Why didn't you take the initiative to tell me how much you think you're worth?

My perspective on porting.
I port when it doesn't inconvenience me greatly. I port when I want to make money. I port when I'm not busy. I will help you out when I can. I have never asked for anything, but I do expect common courtesy. On my alts who do not port, I VERY often run anything less than 20 minutes, that's just me. Common courtesy: 1) Be nice 2) Understand that time is being spent to help the portee out, and subtracted from the porter 3) Donate unless you are on a CR or can't afford it and make the non-donation known before the port. "need a port for CR" 4) Help the porter help you. RUN TO A RING/SPIRE. Don't ask someone to come pick you up in a zone without a port location and then tip 15 plat. Preferably be at the ring/spire when you ask. Make it quick and painless. If common courtesies can't be met, just run. It's a pretty rare thing that I'll change a bind point to accommodate a random port request, so don't get mad if a druid/wiz is running through BFE and doesn't want to port you and spend 15 minutes re-running through kunark from DL. I do not take money from friends, guildmates, and most acquaintances for ports. I do not take ~5 plat donations from low levels I do not port when in groups or exp'ing unless ready to stop. (some people have gotten upset that I wouldn't drop to take them) I do not port from EC to LS, seriously, 5 minutes with no sow. Wizards and druids who arent anon or RP are flooded with port tells constantly. It is tiring at times and just understand that. Other times I and we are happy to *help* you.

This is why I never have said I am porting for donations. I am providing a service and using my personal time to do so, with a clear goal in mind: increasing my weight in platinum.
Therefore, I will /ooc "Porting for PLAT..." not, "Porting for donations..." Whether someone is doing it for donations, or doing it as a clear service, they are using their personal time to decrease your travel time significantly. Perhaps they just don't have the courage or audacity to tell it like it is, they want your money or items for giving you fast travel at the expense of their own personal time.

This whole thread is surely a troll. A level 29 druid spends on average 5-10 minutes of his leisure gaming time medding, waiting, or running to port your lazy ass so that you don't have to spend 10-30 minutes of your leisure gaming time getting from point A to point B. Don't be a jackass and get pissed off if he asks something for his time.

It's simple. When you say donations, you have a chance to get people like me who will pay 150-500+ plat (or item that's worth that much or 3x as much) for a single port. Where as, if you put a low amount, people are inclined to only pay that, or if you put a high amount, you don't get many takers. Basically, saying you port for a donation = more $$$ The donation system works best, mainly because you earn more from the people who can spare it (the high levels) and the people who can't end up still able to grab ports (the low levels). You alienate less people. Sadly, high level jewbags like to take advantage of the system because they don't want to come off a few extra PPs

I sold one of the first Rogue epic MQs (the only epic MQ i've sold) and I've never asked for any of the raid loot to sell. Still was able to afford proper plat payments for ports. You are just a cheapskate who doesn't think he should pay properly for time. Anyone who does ports often should come check this thread out and write down these losers and just ignore their cries for ports.
