The difference being this was a novel plague out of shit hole China (smallpox and bubonic plague also originated there) and so it could’ve been bad. Turns out it wasn’t, but the opportunity cost of taking that risk could’ve been pretty bad

Oh I fully agree (not the nuke china part) which is why I've repeatedly argued here that masking and lockdowns did make sense, at the very beginning, before we knew what the nature of the threat actually was.

My issue is when I see perfectly young, healthy people wearing masks outside at a concert in 2022, demonizing and shaming everyone around them who isn't.

I regard those types as people who've been mentally broken by the government's propaganda and scaremongering campaign. In some sense they're victims, as well. The emotional damage to at least some portion of them is likely permanent as we know from example of other, similar terror campaigns of the past.

You will note in previous similar discussion, I did not call you wrong. I sort of exist outside the usual modern American political alignment, as you do. We are not precisely the same, but I think for the most part I can call you an ally--mostly we dislike the same entities.
