Also, as the birth rate continues to decline, we’ll need to spend more at the government level. Ideally, running surpluses would occur during times of plenty for times in the future when we need to help a troubled economy with spending

“Trust the fed,” maybe. But our elected officials don’t balance budgets anymore and that, despite affirmations to the contrary, actually does matter long term

Meh, TARP and the aftermath of the financial crisis is different than an exponentially more expensive event when the first instance of deficit spending wasn’t corrected with running surpluses during the interim

You can belittle dunces, but deficits and inflation are real concerns.

I don't think our GDP:debt ratio is much higher than other countries. Last I checked we're pretty well in line with Germany and the rest of Europe.

Japan has survived their birth crisis so far, despite carrying huge debts. Our money income number is much much bigger than theirs even.

We may have a responsibility as the reserve currency I guess. Hon Hon Hon.
