Ok I'm not reading this entire thread so I apologize if this was already clarified.

Let's say I (a shaman) am duoing with a mage and we both have pets. Say we're fighting a mob that has 2000 hp. Now let's say, just for the sake of an example, that the mage pet does a total of 1500 damage but the mage reclaims him before the mob dies. Furthermore, the remaining 500 damage is split between my pet and I; he does 300, and I do 200. How does this break down?

Does the 1500 damage done by the reclaimed pet not count towards the mob's total life, in which case my pet will have outdamaged me (and us) and consequently stolen some exp? Or does credit for that 1500 damage transfer to the mage once his pet is reclaimed?

Someone explain this to me please.

Yeah...found an explanation:

So if you have 2 mages and 2 pets, it should not be difficult to prohibit a single pet from doing 50% of the damage.
That also means that damage shields would be beneficial, since it helps ensure the pet does not do more than 50% of the damage.

But I'm still not sure that's the case. Without considering damage shields, saying the pet has to do over 50% of the damage to take 50% of the XP is the same as saying the player has to do over 50% of the damage to not take the XP penalty. Throw damage shields into the mix and it's a different story. If the pet + damage shield is more than 50% of the damage, is that still an XP penalty? What matters more, how much damage the pet does or how much damage the player does?

If I recall correctly damage shield damage is attributed to nobody.

Back in the day I thought you could could PL a noob by DSing yourself and letting mobs hit you until they got low. Then the noob just has to do a very small amount of damage to get credit for the entire kill.

These two statements are not equivalent. If one pet does 49% damage and another pet does 49% damage, then the two players combined only need to do 2% damage to prevent from losing full exp.

I know it's attributed to nobody, that's what makes my question so important. Is it more important that the pet does less than 50% damage or that you do more than 50%? If it's the former, use those DS. If it's the latter, might want to rethink them.

I'm talking solo, and no they're not equivalent even though they may seem to be. If it's just you and your pet doing the damage with zero outside influence including damage shields then they're both functionally the same.

BTW, this is a "I'd just like to know" thing. It's not too important; my necro does fine.

Well 272 posts and 14,000+ views and still no comment from dev team - so who knows Mala! I would hope they are looking into it and some kind of confirmation would be nice.

They fixed the sword of runes proc, maybe if you keep reporting bugs like a civil human being you might get more things fixed.
