I know I mean fireworks are just wacky and fun. Nobody ever gets killed by fireworks! That's not like a well known category of people dying on the 4th of july for the last 100 years or anything
reminder that Adam schefter is a piece of shit for releasing JPP's firework accident medicals

Despite fireworks being wacky and fun, I saw them getting launched at the courthouse during a livestream last week and stuck around for a couple hours because I was sure I was gonna see a live massacre. Instead the host just got maced a couple times.

an explosive device is an explosive device.

Mortars, Roman Candles, M80s are all basically IEDs, the ATF/E should be legally rounding up any people who deploy those.

If you're bringing explosives to bear, you have graduated from violent protester to insurgent and should be dealt with accordingly.

I kind of agree, and I hate that. I can't help but think this model for social change is deeply, deeply flawed. Are we sure crowds chanting one-liners like a bunch of boomers who occasionally break windows and start fires is the best option we have? I'm delighted to see my generation finally have a cause, but I think we can do better than mobs.

The best option is a reasoned debate. Of course. That's the compromise between doing nothing and setting the world on fire.

Don't feel bad.

Your generation is no different from the ones before. For every cohort there will be people who are reasonable and then there will be the bomb-throwers.

The mob. The mob never changes.

They just don't have a cause. It's undeniable that this is no longer about george floyd or even BLM. It sure did start that way though.

At this point, the cause is lost in the rabble of mayhem pervading the streets of dem cities.

All I see is that at this point in 2020, everyone is just pissed off at one thing or another. Pissed at trump, pissed they are unemployed, pissed about a virus, pissed at police or whatever. They do not have an outlet for their anger, you don't get much satisfaction from twitter rants.

So here they are. Pissed off millenials (hate to use that term in that regard, I am one of that group) are using any excuse to express their anger by generating unrest. Liberal mindset folks on the west coast love to protest, this isnt actually anything new. In 2020 they just have a very fast means of organizing. In the 1960s it took years for the various groups started at colleges around the nation to organize. In 2020 they did it in hours. Speed of the mail/phones versus the speed of the internet.

These people are rebels without a cause.

The thing said about every protest.

I think the vast majority of the people there are upset over issues of racial and/or economic injustice, mostly in the legal system but maybe overall as well. It's not like one person is out there is chanting for BLM while the fifty people marching closest to him are there to support fifty completely different causes across the spectrum of political issues.

You can 100% disagree with the message or concept, but saying there's not a cause is being intellectually dishonest.

I'm not a PETA guy, but when they get together to protest I won't try to say they don't have a cause. I'll just say that animals are delicious and my dog is one the joys in my life.

I think this is accurate. Most of the people there are acting on genuine beliefs no matter how unfounded. Were it not for the bricks, fireworks and abundant expletives, it is really no different than people attending church every Sunday. We find the same rates of obesity, self-loathing and rabid devotion to fabricated realities wherein virtue is piled upon he who clears the lowest bar.

Well put, I think it makes most of the protestors feel better in the moment. The obese or out of shape are getting some exercise out of it too at least. I don't think they should go regularly though if they live with people at high-risk of dying or getting very ill from Covid-19 though.
