I've actually questioned why they were in the game a few times already going as far back as November. Never got a solid answer.

But on a serious note, I remember specifically using the pet healing spells in at least the kunark era, can't remember for sure though in original pre-kunark.

yeah i checked the spdat.eff from the kunark CD, it was on kunark, but not on the vanilla CD ...

Someone has a old spdat.eff from shortly before kunark was released?

Yea, although unfortunately I kind of doubt they'll change this now when Kunark is so close to being released (yes I consider a few months close hehe).. Haynar himself said in the pet healing threat thread that he doesn't really want to remove them, only to be readding them in a little bit, so these I would assume will probably stay. If they do remove them though, that's fine too if they truly weren't in in classic.

I may nor may not take out pet healing for mages. I hate taking it out, then only have to put it back in awhile later. It is not fun making changes multiple times. If there weren't so many other things to fix too, it would be another story.

To be honest. Those pet heals don't matter that much to ballance. Considder it a trade off that Pet melee dmg was considerably higher in vanila. and now you have a small pet heal earlier than it was used to be.
The pet heals cost a lot of mana to cast(at lower lvl's), and they scale, so even its a half decent heal at around lvl 20 for too much mana compared to a nuke. it never heals more than 20% at those levels on a low hp fire pet.
At lvl 50 it heals 5% of an Earth pet. Not even worth memorizing.

Its about as unballancing as if Paladin got minor healing at lvl 1 and SK's lifetap instead of lvl 9 ... no big deal.

Lets get some real bugs fixed instead
