hah yes I do remember the short pet list from up thru 0.7.0/early 0.8.0.

That's an interdasting hypothesis you have though Nildog. Maybe I can write a mq2 plugin to summon pet over and over recording the name (don't remember if mq2script can save to log, maybe) and people can run it on live to collect this data almost like packet collector.
Needed to make a plugin to add new /RecordPet command to make a .csv with the pet name & race, then just made a simple macro to cast pet over and over to call it. Just put the pet to make in spell gem 1 (cause lazy/pointless to do any config), and its saved to /mq2folder/pets.csv [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

PHP Code:
// MQ2PetNames.cpp : Defines the entry point for the DLL application.
//

#include <fstream>
#include <direct.h>
#include "../MQ2Plugin.h"
PreSetup("MQ2PetNames");

PLUGIN_API VOID RecordPet(PSPAWNINFO pCharPCHAR Cmd)
{

PSPAWNINFO pet 0;
    if (
pChar && (pet = (PSPAWNINFO)GetSpawnByID(pChar->PetID)))
    {

std::string filePath(gszINIPath); // defined to mq2 folder

filePath.append("\\pets.csv");

std::fstream file;

file.open(filePath.c_str(), fstream::out fstream::app);

file << pet->DisplayedName << "," << pet->Race << std::endl;

file.close(); /* */

}
}

PLUGIN_API VOID InitializePlugin(VOID)
{

DebugSpewAlways("Initializing MQ2PetNames");

AddCommand("/RecordPet"RecordPet);

Code:
|** pet.mac **|
#turbo
#event GetMana "Insufficient Mana to cast this spell!"

Sub Event_GetMana
	/sit
	/varset MyMedding 1
	:ManaLoop
		/doevents
		/delay 2
	/if (${Me.PctMana} != 100)  /goto :ManaLoop

	/varset MyMedding 0
/return

Sub Main
	/declare MyMedding bool outer 0
	:Loop
		/doevents
		/delay 2
		/if (${MyMedding} == 0) {
			/cast 1
			/RecordPet
			/pet leave
		}
	/goto :Loop
/return
