Rogean is the honcho behind eqemu. So if eqemu is open source and this is closed... you'd have to take it up with him.

Oh, he isn't likely to rule against himself? Too bad.

I would be happy to provide the hardware, however, I was told p99 is closed source. Can p99 be closed source if EQEmu is open source, doesn't that violate open source? Anything made out of open source is usually open source as well in the development business. Depends on the license I suppose.

Depends on the license and the people involved.

I'm a developer over at EQEmulator and I can safely say that they're allowed to use our code for whatever purpose they want.

What isn't allowed however is people like you coming into our community and demanding that people make a server. Regardless of hardware or provisions needed, this project has goals and a random person's goals who wants to use their arrogance to achieve their own is not one of them.

You are welcome to use our code on your own EQEmulator server, though, and tweak it to be classic. That's completely fine, though, don't expect our support for making a fuss like this in one of our communities.

I didn't think the whole open source argument would stand a candle anyway, especially since the existence of shady? Unless they got the OK from sony to do this.
The heat is here because you are 'demanding' something, not saying 'wouldn't it be a good idea if'

The legality of this project is listed on the library subforum.

I didn't mean it to sound like a demand. I apologize if it came across that way. I thought I had a good idea.

It's a great idea, but not one the staff will consider judging by the first staff post. Sorry!

You can always change your database in HeidiSQL or Navicat or whatever you use to make it classic such as like changing expansions and weapon models, ive done it. But it may take time. Don't think they will ever release another server though.

That's a good idea. I was hoping to save myself some time by downloading p99 db but it is closed source.

I personally want to see the population on p99 blue increase, not get divided in half between a classic server and a velious server.

You can still experience all the classic content on this server. Can't you?
True, but I would prefer a server that doesn't progress so you can "beat" the game. If you max out with one character you can just create another. My whole purpose in creating a private server was to stop chasing the hamster wheel. It would be nice for once if the end game was a fixed target you could aim for.

My 2 cents.
