Wasn't this specifically for choosing to see classic or velious armor? In eqclient.ini you could choose loadveliousarmor = true/false, or a range of numbers, therefore enabling/disabling custom helm.

I do not recall a setting that would force helms off altogether though.
That may be what im remembering.

I guess everyone wearing a Cap of the Insubstantial is screwed, then.

In Velious when the first class specific helms were becoming available (ToV, Thurg, Kael) they were either showing the incorrect helm graphic or no graphic at all (Paladin, SK, Warrior, Shaman, Cleric, Monk (Cowl of Mortality), Rogue, Ranger). At some point Verant fixed them and decided to give people a choice between showing no graphic (default turn in I think) and the correct graphic. There was a special NPC in Kael, Thurgadin, and Skyshrine to who you would turn in your helm to make it custom (graphic enabled).

None of the Caster class helms (Druid also but not positive) showed a graphic.

Why take the time to disable something that simply makes the game more enjoyable and is 100 percent optional? If you don't like your helm (I play an Iksar, and the helms all look like crap) turning it off is only going to make the game more enjoyable and doesn't interfere with others' gameplay (how does it hurt them if they can't see your helm)? Sure it wasn't "classic" but it wasn't the "Show My Helm" option that took away from the classic feel of the game. Giving us this option in no way interferes with that.

Well, this is how I see it. If you take away all the little things we've added over the years to make the server more classic, it would certainly be less classic. The more classic features we add, the more people use the argument you provided. If it was a simple as instantly and entirely changing everything to classic.. don't you think I would do it? Until then, I'll continue to support classic changes whether they are small or large.

  • Players now have an option in the options window to determine whether or not they want other players to see them with their helm. "Show My Helm"

2005.
Thank you for the reply Nilbog. I see what you are saying, but respectfully disagree that being able to hide your helm makes anything feel less classic.

Anyways, in velious before 2005 I am 100% positive there was a quest that enabled you to hide your helm graphic.
