rangers are not a plate class, though, even back in adnd rangers could wear what ever armor, but the heavier it got, the less dmg they could do, role played a ranger up to lvl 6 years ago, currently doing 3.5 edition, and have a lvl 11 ranger, i stick to chain, wearing a magical mithril coat, i got back at lvl 7, and was a long quest we did for a some snarly arrogant gnome magician, anways to my point being
as they designed this game, they over all did a great job, but they took from what they liked when they were younger roleplaying in adnd, and put in what they wanted but to the bear dude, to make a ranger do high dps, it takes alot of plat to twink the char, but to those wishing to play a ranger, it has to be your main, takes so much time past lvl 30 to lvl them up

basically the coat my guy wears, almost has as much ac and a full breast plate has, but just allows me a better armor check, meaning i get no armor penalties from wearing it

Stop being retarded.
There are no "chain classes" etc. All classes can use some form of all armor types.

There are set armor types for all of the classes. A few unusual all/all items, or raid armor that has plate-level AC and looks for a chain class, does not change this.

Yeah. You can pretty much determine the armor type of a class by the basic sets. Cloth, leather, ringmail/banded, bronze/fine plate. A few specific sets bump certain classes up one "level" (totemic is plate, for instance, while the quivalent ivy etched remains chain), but most items follow the standard formula. Stuff like Tolan's armor has plate graphics but less AC than the equivalent pieces for actual plate classes. Doesn't make ranger a plate class.

Rangers rock post 50 decked out in Hate armor, sky haste (Only belt of pine though) and duel lammys. Not to mention AoE lull. (outside only) That being said, good thing Karnor's is considered an out door zone, I have done some sick pulling there.
