FatMagic: Sounds interesting, let us know what files were safe to remove etc
guineapig: Yes it will matter since data transfer will be slower on USB 1.1

Im running the eq client on a nettop (intel atom 1.6ghz, 1gb ram, 128mb geforce 6200 pci (not pci-x!) card, works like a charm on p1999 [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

So if you put a modified shortcut in on the drive, that'll work just fine. Very interesting... I always think that games these days make registry entries and whatnot that they need to run. Being completely mobile like this is really nice.

Yep. I put the shortcut right on the root of my Jump Drive - and the folder sits a level below. See the picture of my jump drive & properties on the shortcut (attached below)

I can't say for SURE - but I would imagine you will want a USB 2.0 connection... USB 1.0 is 12mbps vs USB 2.0 being 480mbps

Although, I think most PCs that still have USB 1.0 probably won't be able to run the EQ client anyways (or if it can, it will be laggy)
This would cause lag in zoning/loading, but the files necessary should be loaded to memory during playtime, so it shouldn't affect that significantly. At least, I wouldn't think.

This is very cool - thank you. Another thing you'd need to keep in mind is probably to turn logging off, and keep screenshots to a minimum.

I believe that should be possible, go through and delete all of the zone files that do not exist within classic/kunark/velious and that should open up some space definitely. As for what other things you can do to further limit the size I'm not sure.

You can delete the files. I did it to save space when I put it on my 4gb flash drive. The game runs fine off the stick, but sometimes the shortcut gets screwed up.

After an initial pass to wipe all the obvious (Luclin and beyond stuff), I'm down to 1.74gb and still functional - although I haven't zoned everywhere of course.

A lot of the files are tough to determine what they are, because they are abbreviations (mmc*.* , anybody?).

Edit -> MMC is mistmoore catacombs from ldon - so there's another 41 files that felt good to delete [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
