I do agree that the "Pit of Doom" in Halas isn't very impressive. It is just a pit really, not even a very deep one.

The "Pit of Doom" is the name of the arena in Halas, where the Warrior guildmasters are.

The belly of the pit should be a pvp arena too. I’m 98% convinced.

They are honoring Venril Sathir's Legacy by continuing the work of Kotiz, an ancient Necromancer. And yes, that means they are experimenting on Iksars and other races.
