I didn't even know Verix Kylox was that rare. Whenever I did a basement group on my Shaman I remember him spawning fairly frequently and people not even wanting the loot etc. I guess this was also during a time period where the basement was camped at all times and getting a group in that spot 50-60 was super common.

I was fighting xp on an ice goblin at the zone in to perma and someone just came in and killed it mid fight. Needless to say I communicated “F U” (i.e situation was ‘fully understood’) and logged off for a while.

He's not super rare but not common either and with the repop timer being 27 mins in the zone it can take many hours to get him to spawn. Have spent 10-12 hours there plenty of times just to see him.

Verix is probably the most contested thing outside of VS in the zone, which probably contributes to over half of all camp disputes on the server so its not surprising.

I've personally never had a petition/GM involved but I've absolutely been sniped multiple times and have sniped multiple verix's in return. Its a volatile fight and a lot of people go down there trying to solo it which can easily go sideways and result in death.

People (myself included) tend to get pretty fired up when they spend hours to spawn a named mob, finally get it, then die, and then someone else snipes it but that's all within the rules of the game so I just congratulate them and move on and explain to the people that I snipe that I've been in their shoes plenty of times too.

pretty reasonable. respectful and respectable. however, did you realize that the content on these servers is not going anywhere, and you could check for Verix every 27 minutes until the servers shut down?

not just verix, but any camp. and i totally get it - the thrill of "winning" is a big part of why a lot of us play here. but you could easily break the cycle and mindset of "snipe or be sniped" by giving a grace period after a wipe for the person to recover and try again. maybe 5 minutes before you give it a shot. especially on servers where the last new content drop was 4 years ago.

Otherwise, as I've seen, the server meta devolves into a shitty version of EQ where lawyer-questing and "um actually" become the normal, over camps that will respawn in less than 30 fuckin minutes, from now until infinity (for all intents and purposes). or raids for that matter.

these days, unless the person was a dick about it - id help the person recover, help them down Verix, and let them loot the medallion.

but i think i just play differently than most people - because while i enjoy winning - i also dont want to propagate the idea that lawyerquesting and generally being overly competitive on a dead server are worthwhile endeavors.

maybe its because even without a single character who has a single BiS item, I feel like I've seen and done it all on the server. the only reason i play these days to socialize with people who also enjoy my favorite game of all time.

what's more fun than "winning" a spawn or camp or loot is dragging a group of inexperienced casual players deep into a dungeon they've never seen before, and carrying them through the expedition. hearing players say "wow ive never been this deep in Dalnir before" or "20 years later i still find new areas that are so much fun". spreading love for EQ, not breeding hatred for it.

fwiw, as i said - being respectful about it is a good step in the right direction.

when new people come to p99 - they are excited to play the game... and then they get sniped, or get trained by a vindictive player, or have a bullshit camp dispute and then they leave and stop logging in. and the population gets smaller.

makes you think: one of the aspects made THJ successful was that there was none of that. there was no false sense of scarcity. people just logging in to enjoy EQ and do things they never were able to when they were 13 in 1999.

Getting *loot* on THJ was like ya sisters easybake oven. Sure, she'd make you food all day but it was playdoh or rolled up cheese cloth.
