Believe it or not upon release WoW was not "that bad" of a game. For me it was the first pvp mmo experience i ever had. I enjoyed having to maintain the pvp ranks. However it became so reptitive and by the first expansion i was cooked. Headed back to PoP [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I've played WoW a lot over the past 5 years. I still enjoy EQ better for the most part, and in general EQ is more difficult because it doesn't try to make your life easy, it just throws you into the world and lets you figure it all out.

WoW, in my opnion, is fun when you are raiding. I have been a healer, a dps, and lately a main tank. The raid boss fights can sometimes be quite complicated and require a lot of cooperation as a group, a strong leader to keep things together, and are often tuned to allow only a few failures when you are appropiately geared for the fight (which you usually are, due to WoW's gear progression). Fighting a new boss and struggling to figure out the best way to overcome the encounter until you finally get all your eggs in the right basket can be quite fun in its own right.

On the other hand WoW leveling is monotonous. I can't stand leveling other characters anymore, the game truly hand holds you and its like walking through a hallway and just looking at all the pretty paintings. EQ has WoW beat a million times over on the leveling aspect.

PVP can be entertaining in WoW, for what it is worth, if you like group based competitive sports. It's sort of like a game of soccer with magic and swords. It has its moments, especially when you come to one of the enemy bases alone, and manage to take out the three players guarding by yourself.

Sure WoW has many flaws, but it certainly has some pleasure to offer. Even now in cataclysm, all these years later, it can still be fun and that is why it has lasted so long.

Been there, done that. 3 lvl 80s - a healer, a tank and a dps. EZ mode? yes. Only played because some good friends were. Once they stopped I stopped.

Played lots of other games but EQ is still the one with the best memories, the one I hold nearest and dearest.

If you played a game for like 2 hours, you played the game.

DAoC was one of the best MMOs ever made.

Wow pvp was brilliant at all times, wow gameplay was and is chick friendly (my ex played and some of her friends), it was not time dependant like eq.

The downside is it was by social, there was no guild allegiance etc. Guildhopping shits me. Pugs shit me. Etc. The game was so anonymous.

I played EQ, EQ2, and DAoC all extensively, but never played WoW for more than an evening. Had a friend get me to try the Trial a couple of times, but I couldn't ever get into it.

Like what was said above, it just all seemed familiar. Since I already played the above games, I didn't really feel like re-learning weaker PVP than DAoC (I loved their PvP Pre-Atlantis, which I never played), less-sandboxy leveling than EQ, and re-doing an endless amount of "Fetch X" quests to level like in EQ2.

That and the graphics. Couldn't stand the cartooniness.

Never played WOW. Online games I have played are EQ, SoF2, EQ2, MW2, Black Ops, and now back to this. Love these kinds of games and EQ has always been my favorite. Did love The Bard's Tale 2 quite a bit on the Commodore 64 [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.].

WoW was fun and a lot harder when it was first created. Almost every single change they've ever made to it since 2003 (Yes I played during alpha in 2003, had a friend working at Blizzard) has been to dumb it down and make it easier.

Leveling in WoW is easy mode, raiding in EQ is easy mode. Apples and oranges.
