I love how all the jaded ex-eq players always say "EQ doesn't even require skill", but then when you go to join a raid guild and do a seemingly routine thing it's like "Just remember this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and this, and don't do this, and *definitely* don't do this, and definitely *do* do this, and this and this and this". And if you mess up even slightly some fat sweaty neckbeard loser yells over coms about how much you suck. It's really fun.

Typically when you see someone talk that way, it's from a bad player who's used to being carried. EQ probably does seem easy when someone else always does all the work. Inept warm-bodies are routinely carried to the best loot in the game. The difficulty is there, but some folks never know or care to find it. Take a person who levels up in typical pick-up groups in easy areas: Unrest, Karnor, etc. Then he progresses into raiding: Log in when told, group when told, get ported then told, click assist when told, collect loot. Lot of people play the game that way, and they never encounter the slightest hint of challenge.

There's difficulty, just not in the modern game sense.

Take World of Warcraft for example: Any class in WoW is infinitely harder to play at a basic level when compared to classes from classic EQ.

Some classes in EQ just turn on Auto Attack and you're good to go.

However, the world and environment around you is way harder and harsh in EQ than it is on a ton of other games.

It can take skill to run to the next town in EQ.

But we've all been playing this game for years, so yeah, it's easy to us.

I've always described EQ as "it's easy to play your character, the environment is what you need to learn."

these days nobody plays low level characters for only the joy of playing the game.

everyone is tryin to grind a low character to a high character so they can get better pixels.

those that can't solo are sitting there in a group trying to fill out a kill-per-hour spreadsheet to calculate their numerical xp gains while dreaming of a bank filled with vulak gear.

this turns them into sweaty min/max douche bags that demand 5 mobs in camp at all times

then they are totally cool with a KC pit group that pulls 1 mob every 5 minutes

I was in a CoM moat group where one of the members thought the Monk should have been FD pulling (Monk was bringing 3-4 mobs at a time). While he was probably right, they ended up calling each other names for 10 min and the group disbanded. What a shit show.

Whenever I pull, I start slower to see what the group can handle - then I ramp up when it's clear that they can.

People still complain when I do that.

So you can't win with some people.

You're either pulling too much or not enough.
