It is.. I am sorely conflicted. After 20 years being dedicated to this hobby, getting ass-raped by Microsoft and the whole Apple-inspired smart phone w/ social media debacle.. seeing all the old classics get the Indiana Jones treatment.. seeing something smart and interesting being reduced to idiot drool.. edit: Who else survived by making Little Caesar pizzas last two-days so they could save up pennies to purchase the new video card.. rent is expensive. I have personally sacrificed for a hobby that turned around and took a giant shit right on my face..

I am so bitter with this hobby. 20 damn years looking for a new EQ and when I am finally fed up with this bullshit they come along and make what I was interested in.

My EQ friends are dead or gone anyway, just something to witness. I don't think I need a new EQ, after watching New World go down in flames this hobby can't get much better for me.

Yeah the odds are stacked against it.

But if the nerds in the room build it so we will come, and not build it so they can make money, then we'll get our field of dreams 2 one day.

I applaud rogean and nillbog banning the people willing to spend the most money first, and the insane people like us last.

I've said much the same, even with respect to P99 itself: The reality of aging and the trajectory of my own time spent on this hobby over the past decade (spoiler: trending gradually downwards) isn't likely to reverse itself any time soon. Some addition to P99 or some new as-yet unlaunched game could be the best thing since sliced bread and at best it'll be too late to do me any real good. By the time something like a Patheon or an M&M manages to launch I'll probably be neither able nor interested in doing much more than dabbling.

EQ was neither my first nor my personal favorite massively multiplayer online video game, but it represents the transition period when gaming began to shift from niche to mainsteam. It was the last of those types of games designed with small customer base sizes in mind (excepting those which deliberately chose to limit themselves like Shadowbane), where world building came first because they weren't too worried about losing an audience they didn't know they had. By the time DAOC and EQ's own expansions hit, and certainly by the time Warcraft hit, the market realized the scope of popularity for the genre and a lot of production was more of a sort of get-rich-quick dream rather than a passion project, coming with with the associated production and design compromises.

What chaps my ass is my radio control racing hobby is still there, still niche and still basically the same aside from innovations and improvements that make good sense for it, like more efficient nitro engines, chassis and suspension upgrades and better radio/servo designs.

Video games cut their penis off.

You should get into flying RCs then, because this is some cutting edge shit going on in there right now:

Never got into gas powered R/C cars. I did fly R/C planes a bit. Didn't stick with it because while I could do it, better than most of my friends could, I couldn't come to enjoy it because it's a very delicate sort of flying and I naturally tend to manhandle the controls. Hence it was always something I had to think about all the time and could never really feel natural at. I liked the real thing better, flying a Yak-18 was some of the most fun I ever had behind a piston engine. In a ship like that you've got to manhandle it around as normal practice since the stick pull is measured in pounds per G and not fractions of an ounce like in R/C. Suited me just fine.

Nice thing about a video game is if you screw the pooch and die, you get to respawn.

Cool stuff but that is already done in First Person Drone Racing. Not my thing though. I think the old warplane design is more interesting but form follows a function.

These camears are on rotating gyros, so you can look around like in a flight sim in a ww2 plane, which i dont even care if that was something they had in drone racing because drone racing is for a generation of people i despise.

idk I just like the little men with cameras that can look and see the superior wings of a plane to that of the many loud trashcans of a drone [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
