And I would go as far to say as original EQ had a lot more toxhic shit going on than here.

I knew like, 4 people who had divorces because of people e-cheating. And I was young as shit and knew this.

I had a friend who was incredibly addicted to EQ. Raider, epic, all that stuff. Basically passed on a chance to play baseball in college because he’d rather play EQ

Anyway, he met some girl (apparently a real girl, not a dude playing a girl char) and they started some kinda online relationship. He’d tell me he was in love with her and I’d be like “bro you never met her”. And he’d be like “we have phone sex, we are in a serious long distance relationship”. I think it was like his first “girlfriend”

He proposed to her and they had an in-game wedding. He proposed to her IRL and she said yes, having never met him. Then when it came time, she got cold feet and told him she had cancer and was going to die and lost all her hair to chemo and couldn’t meet him. I tried to tell him it was probably a lie because she got cold feet but he didn’t believe me. He knew she was in Utah or something, and he actually flew to Utah and then drove around random streets trying to find her. Borderline stalker-ish shit…

It crushed him. Hopefully he learned a lesson to meet the girl in person before you propose :/

Sounds like my buddy's dad. He and 3 of his boys (ages 9 - 14) played EQ together and of course I joined in. I remember his dad played a female druid and he was getting in-game married to another female druid (very roleplay-y, very cringe, but I was 12 at the time and thought it was cool) that happened to be a lady IRL.

Anyway, they used to stay up super late, til like 5am roleplay cybering out in Gfay, and he was going to leave his wife and kids to go live with this lady, but his wife found out and basically kicked him out of the house for a few weeks. I guess it woke him up and he decided to cut ties, so we all moved to Prexus server and started over. 20 years later they're still together, but it almost fucked everything up. All for an ugly pixel bitch probably looked a lot like Chortl(ol)es.

Yikes wow. I mean I was addicted to EQ and other MMORPGs and loved to call out of work frequently for them but I was never that pathetic.

That's something kids do, 13 year olds that think they're in a "serious relationship" with some girl they met online that lives thousands of miles away.

Oof, I remember a guildie back in the day posting a thread on the guild forum looking for a girlfriend, listing his income/assets etc. Suuuuper cringy. He got called out in the thread by a bunch of people. Never saw him in-game again. I thought that was bad, but this..... yeesh.
