Thief: The Dark Project (Thief 1) Thief: The Metal Age (Thief 2) Windows PC Both are fully recommended. Thief 1 was more like EQ, more fantasy. Thief 2 focused more of thieving with less fantasy. Best used with headphones. Thief: Deadly Shadows (Thief 3) Windows, Xbox Play this one if you really like Thief. 1st & 3rd person Thief. /shrug. A downgrade from the original classics, you can't even swim underwater. I judge all (Windows, Desktop PC) games by original Everquest, if you can't swim underwater you get downgraded. Visually more impressive than the original Thief games (from a certain point of view). Thi4f (Thief 4 a.k.a Teef) Windows, Xbox, PS4 Consolitus Thief. Visual cue system in replacement of sound. The weakest of the games overall but maybe the most visually impressive (from a certain point of view). Note: The Vista/X360 standards were in effect and so was STEAM. There have been no mention of a new Thief game since #4 and probably never will be. I think hardware shapes games. The original Thief games were released for Windows (no multiplatforms) and focused on sound as a core part of their design. During this time a few different companies were producing sound cards and experimenting with 3D audio, for example Creative and Aureal. Sound was still used for Thief 3, that released for PC and Xbox. Televisions don't typically have people using headphones so the visual cues were switched to. IMO it's a much dumber experience. 3D audio placement was in EQ back in era, it was awareness when you had the spell book open.

![]() That game was good, so was System Shock! I didn't realize, or forgot, that they were both made by Looking Glass

Some of the Looking Glass crew made the original Deus Ex, it was Warren Spectors answer to Thief, he self admits that he sucked playing stealth games so he made one that you have options in. This would inspire game designs that have "elements" of all genres but are not great at any of them. Exceptions are cool but not when they become the standards. Quote:
Note: Distance matters. If you are sitting at a desk or 10 feet away sitting on a couch in the living room. For the most part, the Vista/X360 push by Microsoft would eventually lead to the end of computer designs in favor of the living room, ultimately this is to take over everything from the computer to the TV to the mobile device and replace it with the Azure Cloud.
