Thanks All. Now if this pesky work thing would go away I can get installed and get going.

I suggest that you and your son take up a better hobby, like playing frisbee golf or catch or maybe start a father son band? Both learn the guitar at the same time? Otherwise I would play red because I like pvp even though the server is low population now. Otherwise, green has the most people so thats the best place to be.

It's fun. Just don't get too invested and take everything with a grain of salt and you can have a lot of fun here reliving your memories. There's lots to do up to level 60 without getting "hardcore" and plenty of people at all levels on any server to play with and explore Norrath however you want with a little patience. My recommendation is to play whatever you want wherever you want. The most fun I've had here is making things work with weird group compositions in seldom used zones. Not many people have dungeon crawled Nurga's Mine, but trust me, it's a blast. There will be frustrating setbacks for sure, but that's what this game is all about.

I find it strange that folks would recommend the older, less populated server, where almost everyone has several level 60s and there is almost no play below 60. I guess, if you are interested in just the raiding game, and want to get to that ASAP, then Blue would be fine.
But if you want to enjoy the journey and want groupmates along the way, the Green server has a signficantly higher population, especially in those lower levels. The logical choice is to choose the newer server with the higher population, I would think. At least, I chose Green six months back, in the same situation, and I have not regretted it.

Trust me the Son and I do LOTS of things together. He plays travel baseball, we mountain bike, we work out together, skeet shoot fish. All sorts of things. We also play Xbox together or even old atari/nintendo games. We have an insane survival Minecraft world that we revisit every once in a while. I am actually a really good Guitar player but unfortunately guitar and drums have not stuck with him. Got to have variety. I got sucked into EQ in the worst way back in the day. My roommate said I should have taken up cocaine because it was probably less addictive. At the rate I will play the chances of me seeing level 60 again are slim but hey, why not LOL.

Very cool. Yeah play for the journey.
I think a shaman / monk combo starting in kunark as iksars is a really cool way to go. Or maybe a shaman / necro so you are both independent soloable casters, but shaman / monk is such a perfect combo. But really the fun way for me to play is a starting city / area with a duo partner and progress the way the game sort of wants a noob to progress. Can't go wrong.

Well I got up and running last night with a little Halfling Druid named Lerxsty on Blue. Got him to level 4, almost 5. Only died once when I accidentally attacked Hibbs Rootenpaw while I was trying to remember how the keyboard controls work.
Thanks to the various folks that gave me the backpacks and a buff or two. I am the bane of all bats skeletons and those little beetles. Even took out a few Orcs and a goblin when buffed. LOL so fun. I didn't sleep last night!
