It's fine if it does rot. That is the recommended way to store your stuff when away from the game for an extended period! GMs can easily retrieve and restore the items.

The really need t stop doing that corpse respawning nonsense. totally not classic. one of the biggest fears for people back n the day was losing all your gear. At a minimum they need to give only a week or two grace period to apply for a corpse repopping. After that you are SOL.

Obviously their server to do what they want, but this is a pretty excellent point.

I would argue it's more likely that he didn't spend any time camping those items, and when he got caught for RMT'ing them they nuked his account. Hence the reason they are about to rot.
