Whether Google did or didn't begin as an NSA or CIA front doesn't matter. Once it gets that big, they're going to take control of and regulate it under national security grounds regardless. They've already been caught trying to regulate information hundreds of times by altering video view counts on youtube for videos critical of the federal reserve or Obama and other low level henchmen and teleprompter readers.
Google's main source of revenue is adds. You constantly see them venturing into fields that offer no source of revenue whatsoever. They aren't run like a business, they're run like they're trying to take over everything on the internet whether it's profitable or not.

I work for Google making $55/hr at home! At first I thought it was a scam or something, but it really works! Now I make a full time salary while only working part time! At first I was nervous about working on my own. I didn't even know how to start working for Google at home. But then I made $500 on my first day, and I can make $3000 a week now. I know that some people can make a lot more, but this is enough for me. You guys should check it out!!

All of the perks are there to keep the employee happy and for them to stay working at Google. It's not about "Oh, work overtime.". It's to make them comfortable because when in high stress environments, people don't work well. That's what Google's mission is all about.

There's an article here (http://techcrunch.com/2009/01/18/why...mployees-quit/) about why people quit working at Google, and most of them seemed to enjoy their time there. They do work you hard, though. One employee said, "But along with the food came the Google lifestyle: if you were staying for dinner, it better be because you were working afterwards. It was frowned upon to leave right after dinner." It still sounds like a fun place to work, but you won't be playing on the slides all day.
