Enchanter is a lot harder now without the pet window.
It's hard to map a page of hotbar to pet commands? What other macros do you need while charming?

/pet health
/pet attack
/pet back off
/pet sit
etc
You can even wrap the health one into the other macros so that it doesn't need it's own, if you are really pressed.

Anyway, to OP, If you want to solo, do not play any melee. A SK on blue can solo for sure. Most melees can solo a bit with velious weapons. But the weapons on vanilla will be garbage, and casters will be the only ones soloing (exception maybe monk)

Assuming green follows the proper timeline, I'd prioritize a class that 1) you would enjoy playing in classic era followed by 2)you would enjoy in kunark/velious era. I don't think theres too much of a change between kunark/velious for most classes...maybe ranger is a little better, wizard worse, but for the most part the big change is classic to kunark. If you're creating a character in classic, it's most likely you'll spend most of your time on that char in classic. I wouldn't create a char simply because they'd be OP later on in the timeline, theres a good chance you might not even be playing much by the time that rolls around.

From your "probably nots" some of those classes might be more versatile than you're used to in classic era. Stuns/heals/blind from pally will be useful in group, as Videri said cleric is versatile as well. Wizard being able to DPS will be more important due to awful classic ratio weaps, and groups are probably going to have more downtime anyway.

Druid or necro. But since someone else already advocated for druid, I'll advocate for necro.

*Pets are great in vanilla.

*Feign Death is not only the best "oh shit!" button in the game, it's also the only pause button. Someone at the door? FD. Cat's got the zoomies and destroying your living room? FD. It's only got a 1.5 second cast time as well, so you can fit it into a window you wouldn't with gate to save yourself.

*Druids have the ability to port anywhere, but necro's have the ability to *go* anywhere. Between Invis, Invis vs Undead, Skelly illusion, Harmshield, and FD, there's very few places you can't go and explore in almost total safety.

* Because you're evil, Necros don't really have to worry about faction. As long as you're liked in your home city, everything else gets to turn into exp and loot. This really frees up some great options other classes don't typically get to take advantage of.

*Since you don't plan on raiding, you don't have to feel left out about your epic when Kunark launches, which is one of the harder ones to get.

*You're one of the most versatile classes in the game. Soloing gives you a plethora of options via fear kiting, root rotting, charm, etc. And you're also one of the best duo classes, able to fit in with anyone seamlessly in any environment.

I never expected to love the necro as much as I did, but it ended up turning into one of my (if not absolute) favorite classes in the whole game. I always felt like I not only had a tool for virtually every situation, but a good one. Just an incredibly fun class to play.

I would love to write a big long essay about how versatile and powerful and subtle clerics are, but I don't really have time right now. Off the top of my head:
• Invis to Undead. In a zone of mostly undead, clerics have free access. Unrest, LGuk dead side, most of Kaesora...you can pop up at any camp spot you want to play. You can also cast it on others. With Sunskin at level 50 or 51, you can join forces with an invis class to double-invis both characters and waltz through almost anywhere undetected.
• Pacify. If the spawn points are arranged right, and the mobs are blue, you can be a ninja.
• Resurrect others...and yourself.
• Multiple stuns. Prevent mobs from healing themselves or dispelling you.
• Of course root, fear, blind, undead nukes, complete heal, strong HP buffs, yada yada
• You can be an evil cleric.

Secondly, you absolutely did not play your bard right. If you want to get hooked on bard, play one in a group. Look on the forums for how to play bards in groups. They make amazing pullers, too. They can also solo very scary outdoor mobs by fear-kiting or utilizing charm.
haha I can now with 100% certainty predict, videri will be rolling a cleric on green. Am I wrong?

Monk is awesome and would be a solid choice.

How is Shaman solo? The idea of being useless until 60 is crazy to me. The journey is the game. If I ever get a dude to 60 on this server I'll pack it up and quit playing lol.

I'm pretty casual.

I'm neither of these things... but I want to be?

Is this thread spreading false advertising that ranger is a good choice to make?
No, but if it were, it wouldn't be false. Rangers do not deserve the bad rep. Those who know, know. Any fool can play most classes, but some take skill and perseverance. When I see a 60 cleric or rogue or monk, I yawn. When I see a 60 ranger or pallie or SK, I'm impressed.

You think that's bad-- if you were playing the correct client for velious you wouldn't be able to mouse look around corners and so forth. That's a perk that is actually unbalancing.

Can you solo? I mean... you’re tempting me.

And you are 100% correct. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Probably going male this time, so I won't call my cleric Havona again...*thinking*

And dear OP, I might write that essay on how awesome clerics are sometime. Meanwhile, I hope the rest of my post will spark whatever hidden passion for clerics you may have.

Things that I value:

Utility: Variety of play style is important to me. Being able to fill multiple rolls and do different things. Having versatility to work in a group and also solo.

Agility: Being able to move about and go to as many places as possible. SoW, Teleports, Feign Death, Invisibility, all those cool things that get you around the world quickly.
You just described druids, with the exception of feign death.
