Shield of song? Or more mana?

I played my Bard for a bit yesterday to make sure his name was intact. @52 my modus operandi was Hyme of Healing + 3 Mana ticks while at rest, Slow + Heal + mana2x on single pulls, Mez + mana on multiple mobs.

My 'hide' skill was not reliably breaking charms for some reason so I stopped charming and just stuck with mez since the group didn't have any DPS problems.

What do people mean by "pulsed mana"? It sounds like using "Cassindra's Chorus of Clarity", but basically recasting the song every 3 seconds?

New bard and would appreciate the clarification.
